A visit to this corner of Essex would not be complete without a visit to the Tiptree Tea Room and Visitor Centre. The famous Wilkin & Son jams, known worldwide, are made here.
The tea room offers lovely food and cakes in comfortable surroundings with waitress service. You can sit outside on the terrace during the summer months.
Afterwards, it’s well worth a trip round the museum which stands on the site where jam was first made in 1885.
Plus you will want to stock up on jam, jellies, sauces, lemon curd, Christmas pud and a host of other goodies from their gift shop while you are there.
It’s open seven days a week except at Christmas, from 10am on a weekday or 11am on a Sunday, closing at 5pm in the Summer and 4pm in the Winter.
We start the day here at Ransomes B&B in Peldon with a full English breakfast cooked on the Aga, followed by toast with Tiptree Jam – it’s a great way to enjoy your stay in Essex!
