Roman River Festival 2014

With the annual, increasingly popular Roman River Festival just around the corner (18th September – 5th October), it’s the perfect time to visit Colchester. Here at Ransomes we are just a short car – or bus – journey from the centre of town. While there visit the newly refurbished Red Lion Walk, bursting with new, independent shops. Mersea Regatta has just finished for this year – highlights included the infamous ‘greasy pole’ and firework display. There were even boats dressed up as battleships and submarines! The fun fair is continuing for a few more days, and is always a hit with the youngsters, making a trip to Mersea perfect for all the family. Sun, Sea and Sailing

While you are visiting the beautiful island of Mersea, why not stay with us at Ransomes Bed and Breakfast?  The sun is still out over the South East coast, so come and enjoy the last few days of summer surrounded by countryside and beaches. Make the most of summer!

With such wonderful weather in Essex it is the perfect time for a long weekend away by the coast in our bed and breakfast. Enjoy the beautiful views from our back garden and dabble your feet into our pond with all our stunning fish! Mersea is lovepondly this time of year, so now is the perfect opportunity to relax by the sea – or go crabbing off the pontoon – just remember to bring the sun cream!

See what’s on at the local Mercury Theatre for great evenings out. The Mercury has a wide repertoire of productions, from pantomimes to musicals, Shakespeare to Ruby Wax (23rd Oct). There really is something for everyone!

Summer heatwave

Summer has finally arrived and here on the coast we are in the middle of a wonderful heatwave! The garden is in full bloom and looking truly magnificent. This is the perfect opportunity for a weekend away by the sea and as we are situated just 7 minu10545058_10202568626713000_1312420262_ntes from Mersea Island the beach is never far away – it can even be seen from our back garden!

With both Cadet Week and Mersea Week coming up, along with plenty of sailing regattas, Mersea is the place to be this summer.

Colchester Castle has just undergone a £4.2 million refurbishment and is looking better than ever with brand new interactive displays, new finds and star exhibits. There are plenty of experiences for children – from dressing up to building a Roman archway and exploring a recreated thatched roundhouse. This makes for a fantastic family outing for all ages; everyone is sure to enjoy the new app that brings the castle to life, showing how it would have been in its glory days.
